In 1776, America declared that “all men are created equal” — endowed with “unalienable rights” of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

BUT AS WE LOOK TOWARD 2026 AND BEYOND, WE MUST ASK:

Who gets to pursue happiness today? And how can we rebuild a new social contract that ensures freedom for all.

WHAT IS A SOCIAL CONTRACT?

A social contract is the invisible agreement that binds us together — the belief that we trade a bit of individual freedom for the safety, security, and wellbeing of our communities. But when that contract breaks — when systems silence voices, strip rights, and ignore humanity — it’s our right, and our duty, to rebuild it.

AS THE DECLARATION REMINDS US:

“Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government… most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
